The national park allows no more than 360 people per hour onto the crater trail – 60 every ten minutes. Tickets are sold exclusively online; the only authorized shop is vesuviopark.vivaticket.it.

When you can goOpening hours and closures

Entry daily from 9:00 am. The first slot has the clearest view and the fewest groups; from midday, haze often drifts into the crater.

Closures happen because of the weather, not the volcano: when Campania's Civil Protection issues a warning of level orange or higher, ticket sales and the trail close automatically, and paid tickets are refunded within 60 days without any request. Current notices: national park, “Alert” section.

Can you buy Mount Vesuvius tickets on site?

There is no ticket office. For each 10-minute slot, ten last-minute tickets are released 30 minutes beforehand, available only via the Wi-Fi at the entrance (€10, reduced €8). In season you should not rely on them.

What happens if I arrive late?

The turnstile accepts the ticket up to 120 minutes after the booked time, as long as the day's last entry has not passed.

Do I get my money back if Mount Vesuvius is closed?

Yes. In the case of a documented closure, unused tickets are refunded automatically within 60 days.

Does the ticket include a guided tour?

It includes the mandatory safety escort by the park guides in groups of 20 – not a private guided tour with commentary.

Do children need a ticket?

Children under 6 go free but need a free ticket booked online. The reduced price applies to anyone under 25.
