Ordinances issued by mayors and island governments, park authorities, civil protection, volcano institutes (INGV, IGN, the Icelandic Meteorological Office). In full text where possible, with number and date.

Rules at volcanoes change – sometimes several times a day. That is why nothing appears here without a source and a date.
Where the information comes fromThe order of sources
We do not copy what other travel sites write – we read what the authority has actually decreed.

Official operator
Cable cars, ticket shops, ferry companies – for prices, operating hours and conditions.

Tourist board, press
Only where the authority and the operator publish nothing. In that case we state that the information is second-hand.

Travel blogs
Never as a source. We read them only to show what is outdated there – in the section “What other sites get wrong”.

Every figure has a source
Below each block of rules you will find the source with the date of the ordinance; at the end of each page, the full list with the date we accessed it.
What we cannot document is not on the page
Or it is explicitly marked as uncertain – for example when a price comes only from a press report, or when an authority contradicts itself.
Date and updates
Every page states when it was last checked. We retrieve the authorities' alert levels automatically and show the retrieval date next to them; rules, prices and closures are checked monthly and whenever an alert level changes.
No invented experience
We do not claim to have been everywhere ourselves. Captions describe what the photo shows; photos are real and credited with author and license.
Advertising is labeled
Booking links lead to GetYourGuide or Tiqets and earn us a commission. Where the official ticket is cheaper, we say so. More in the affiliate disclosure.
